Having grown up exploring the wilds of Tamriel at large, getting to see so much support from Bethesda Game Studios heading towards Nintendo Switch 2 is immaculate. With Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition, Indiana Jones and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered hitting the system this year, we are spoiled for choice! However if you were considering these to pad out your shelf of various Switch 2 games, you’ll be sadden to hear that only ONE of these titles is fully physical. Even still, the fact that we have gotten this much from Bethesda is blessing enough!
Recently announced during the, “One Last Thing” section of February 5th Nintendo Partner Direct, Bethesda opened the flood gates of support. Not only updating us on the previously announced versions of Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones, they then proceeded to drop the surprise reveal that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was also going to be making its debut onto Nintendo Switch 2! This is actually fantastic as during the mid 2000s we last saw this entry in, The Elder Scrolls series, launching only on Xbox 360 and eventually PlayStation 3! So, this will be that games maiden debut on a Nintendo platform, since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Shouted its way onto the original Nintendo Switch system.
With the remaster, not only do you get a fine looking update to the now 20 year old game, you also get all the DLC goodness that dropped with the game. Unrivaled is both Knights of the Nine and the Shivering Isles for game expansions, that this alone is worth the price of entry. But is it worth 59.99USD? Maybe not, but with how everyone’s complained about 79.99 having been too much to charge for Mario Kart World, I’d say we are lucky Microsoft and Bethesda didn’t think to charge that much! Granted, as it stands however Bethesda has confirmed one sour aspect. Both Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered will unfortunately be Code-In-Box. Not Game Card or Game Key Card, but a paper code. While I know that the GKC are not as enjoyed, they are at least able to be resold, for as long as the Switch store front sees continued support. Once a code in the box is redeemed, that’s it. Do we still get to have a box with some pretty art? Yeah, we do, but at this rate I’d honestly have taken the GKC over a piece of paper that I can’t resell later down the road.
We are a ways off for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, so it could very change depending on feedback from Fallout 4, but I remain pessimistic in that outlook. Surprisingly enough however, is that Indiana Jones is launch, complete on cartridge for its debut on the platform! That’s both shocking and honestly a good sign. Early gameplay of the port seems to hold up nicely, if not for being a bit blurry in the background during cutscene moments. Having only played it through PC Game Pass, I can say the game is devilishly fun and treats you to an at home Indiana Jones experience as good as the films!
While ports are indeed becoming a bit of a “joke” to some Switch 2 owners, the fact we are seeing this level of support and dedication to bringing quality games to a market that may have never played them, is a win in our opinion! With much of 2026 left to go, there are sure to be many more first party announcements to come with further Nintendo Directs!
