We love gaming, we especially love Indie games! Indie games are the unsung heroes of console support, offering new life into aging system or heralding a new course for a brand new system! Either one is a great aspect to have, especially with a new system on the block and a hole to burn in your wallet! Fret not, for I have a few in mind to recommend to you all today! The genre’s will vary from title to title, as I hope to offer you all some options that may help alleviate the dreaded boredom that comes with not having anything to play!

As such I believe it is important to always highlight the work of indie developers and what they can bring to home systems, outside of the Steam environment. I highly encourage you all to support the developers you enjoy and give them the press that they need to succeed! Now, without further ado, let’s get this suggestion train rolling!

Locomoto is the cozy train sim that will cure your fatigue and set new horizons within your grasp!

If you are like me and often dream of what life on the rails would be like, then Locomoto is here to give you those experiences! So long as you don’t mind getting your hands (or paws in this case) dirty first! Drawing inspiration from cozy management sims and series such as Story of Seasons/Bear and breakfast, Locomoto is a pure love-letter to small towns, intimate relationships and trains. Tasked with helping your failing town recover, all while fulfilling the needs of travelers and other towns alike, you venture out on the rails in search of that aid. Along the way you are able to slowly, but surely, upgrade your train, giving your passengers or cargo an experience on the rails that they won’t soon forget.

Frankly games like this have always had a special place in my library. Being the ones that I can seek out for comfort or the ones that truly feel unique in a gaming landscape of similarities. Being able to custom make your characters, decorate your train are just some small aspects of this title that I enjoy. Frankly being able to facilitate comfortable travel for riders and getting to chose the type of carts that our engine is hauling are just icing on top of a delicious cake! That and getting to explore the various cozy towns, hamlets or stops on the train routes is just an ambient experience. This game is the definition of cozy and we couldn’t be happier. Best part is that it plays Wonderfull well on Nintendo Switch 2! So, even better for your new console!

Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is the visual novel love letter to Gundam and Mecha That we Have Needed!

If you’ve ever missed that quintessential charm that came with 80’s-90’s era anime that featured giant mech and catchy opening songs, then Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog should fit right in for you! Capturing the sounds and very essence of the quirks and chirps of a sci-fi anime, this visual novel is perfect for any fan of the aforementioned. The game positions you as the Gun-Dog’s Security officer during a pivotal time in space-politics, as an unknown assailant threatens the very being of your ship and your crew mates! However it’s not only this unknown force that will placate your efforts. Crew moral and bitter grudges also threaten to tear it all down too. The game thus puts you into the tough position to make the right or wrong choices in your battle against odds.

Drawing from old point and click adventures and the core visual novel experience, Stories from Sol: The Gun-Dog is a delightful treat to fans of the genre. Playing the demo, which is available on Steam and Nintendo Switch/Switch 2, gives you a wonderful insight to the deeply curated world that Space Colony Studios has provided us within game. The characters feel grounded in reality and have unique quirks and characteristics that give you a meaningful experience. I can easily see this taking a high spot for game of the year contender or at the very least, best narrative game. Seriously, it’s that impressive from just playing the demo! I am hoping to provide a review of this title at some point in the future, so please look forward to it!

Hades 2 Will Be the Perfect Fit For Nintendo Switch 2!

What can one say about the prolific success of Hades as a franchise for SuperGiant Games that hasn’t already been said? Well, for one, the second game features the protagonist of Melinoe, sister of the first games protagonist, Zagreus. This time your goal is to defeat Chronos, the Titan of time, as he has returned to wreak havoc upon the mortal and Godly plains, having taken Melinoe’s family captive. The fact that we get to experience a new chapter in this amazing universe is simply amazing. With new mechanics and differing abilities, Melinoe plays unlike her brother from the first game. Having witchy abilities and a new magick bar mechanic, the game seeks to differentiate itself while still feeling familiar.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the first one on the original Nintendo Switch, I am utterly excited for this latest entry. The biggest issue with this one is going to be having to wait! Having only just received the last of its Early Access updates this past June 12th, the launch update, 1.0, will undoubtedly release sometime later this year. Our best guess would be an October target for all of those ‘spooky’ vibes! Fortunately, if you cannot wait for the second one, the first Hades title is on-sale on the eshop until July 11th, 2025!
