Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero Ultimate Edition Reminds Me Why I Love Gaming

on

I’ve never had a gaming experience quite like the one I’ve had thus far with Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero Ultimate Edition. It has an enchantment about itself that transports me back to my childhood years, playing my Nintendo GameBoy Color and being lost in the clouds. It wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows, but it was an escape that I won’t ever forget. Countless hours spent playing platforms of all kinds and fighting off villains in a galaxy far, far away.

While I never got the chance to play the original Shantae for the Nintendo GameBoy Color, what I do have the chance to do is play the one that I currently have access to. It is a game that is aware of the climate it is in and one that can poke fun at it’s own core audience. It is a spectacle that I feel shines brightest on Nintendo’s Switch and I am in absolute love with it. I talked briefly about the aforementioned title in my latest unboxing of it; which you can watch using the link or video below.

What I found intoxicating about the game was the experience in the unboxing itself. Small additions like a bloody instruction manual is such a throwback and one that made me feel like a kid once more. It was a waste of paper, but man do I love having something that adds to the gaming experience. Often times they can provide helpful tips and additional information regarding the game you play. That made getting a game fun, it made it all the more personal when you got to play it. The game itself feels like it could easily run on an older Nintendo GameBoy Color or GameBoy Advance; just not as shiny looking.

I get to feel like a child again, living out my Summer breaks lost in a gaming world of near endless possibilities. I can say that I am giddy about playing games again, more-so because of the Nintendo Switch. It’s a gateway back into my gaming past and companies, like WayForward, are bridging that expanse to bring back good memories. To remind us all about the joy of a gaming experience. One that encompassed all aspects of the game experience that starts as soon as you get the box in your hands.

It seriously is. I hate being biased, but I seriously feel like this game is at home on the Nintendo Switch.

      1. I could see that being the case given the general feel of Nintendo games. I have the previous game, Sahte and the Pirate’s Curse on Steam too. Never did play the originals though.
