The Importance of Simplistic Anime

We are often told to step back and take a breather. To relax and unwind after a long days work to just soak in the finer things. These are often simple pleasure we find ourselves enjoying, be it a game, movie, book or favorite hobby. This feeling of, “Mellowing Out” can lead us towards feeling accomplished or even at ease. The same can be said for the anime industry and its need for more simplistic anime.

Too often do animation studios churn out titles that focus on over complexity or build off of long running manga’s; One Piece… These shows offer a plethora of content, including filler, but they often scare viewers due to just how complex they get. It’s just not something most viewers find enticing or something worth their time. That is were a relaxed anime can come in to save the day.

Anime like Yurucamp (Laid-Back Camp) are atmospheric and cozy shows that take little to get into and give you an immense, “Mellowed Out” sort of feel. The theme of the show is that of relaxed camping so it would make entire sense that the shows aura has this soothing aspect. This wonderful show is among many more, such as Flying Witch, Mushi-Shi or Hyouka that offer atmospheric shows over, overly complex titles with intricate character sub-plot that spans one billion episodes. Okay maybe an over exaggeration, but still vaguely relevant for titles like Naruto, Bleach or One Piece.

The importance that simplistic anime have on the industry can be blatantly obvious to not as acknowledged. I mean it took several years for cult favorites like Mushi-Shi to see a revival of sorts. This appreciation for anime that lack complexity has a place in your viewing queue. Whether it be for unwinding or just simple background noise. These are shows that deserve to be seen and heard. They don’t have to be overly flashy to make a point either. Some fan-service may slip in, that’s just the climate we work in, but it is far form a critical component.

So next time you have the windows open and you are sipping on a cold or warm beverage of choice, pop on one of the aforementioned titles and enjoy. Maybe you even have a few titles to recommend for me to watch too! Feel free to leave me some recommendations down below!
