The Magic of A Photoshoot: Naka-Kon 2018 Edition

You all know I love me a good photoshoot and you all know that I harbor an unhealthy bias towards Naka-Kon. Well, when the two forces combined this past weekend, let me just say I was over the moon-ecstatic. A photoshoot is something that I always fawned over and thought was reserved for the most elite of photographers. When I got the chance to take pictures for some Love Live cosplayers at Anime Nebraskon I was presented with a chance. That chance opened up a new realm of possibilities for me and would be ground work for what transpired at this past Naka-Kon.

Three photoshoots took up the majority of my time this past Saturday and those precious minutes lasted eons. For me it wasn’t purely about getting the recognition of taking a photo, of participating in the photoshoot. It was getting to experience a euphoric feeling that I’ve never had the chance to enjoy. There is a certain energy that surrounds someone in cosplay and that energy can affect others. It leads to random ‘WTF’ moments or pure insanity. All for the sake of smiles, laughter and pictures. I’ve learned that going into a photoshoot blind can be a massively rewarding experience all its own.

Don’t go into a shoot thinking that you will walk out with the shot you want. That is something I’ve honestly felt proudest in learning. I obsess over photography and getting that perfect photo that I’ve had to tell myself to just let go. Just take the picture and enjoy the company. Throw humor into the mix and just enjoy the shoot. This pure and yet simple concept was something so empowering, so beautiful that I couldn’t see it in any other light. The photoshoots I was apart of at Naka-Kon were magical. I left with more than a couple of shots, I left with a wide grin and a feeling of success. That is all someone could ever hope to ask for from a photoshoot.

Thank you to everyone who was apart of my Naka-Kon experience this year! It was an immense pleasure to work with everyone involved and I appreciate the mad amount of support and follows from it all. Just know that I will endeavor to do my best and provide the best that I can.
