-Why Boku Dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED) Is Already My Top 2016 Anime-

Yes, I just did an episode one impression and yes I love yet. Thing is, it already has me sold. Two episodes in and I am already convinced that this will be my number one anime for the whole of 2016. It is just crazy! I mean we have yet to be finished with January and already, there is this drop dead beautiful anime staring me in the face, begging me to continue watching it. I cannot express more than I have already about how gripping this anime is. The first episode was all about introducing us to the character that we would be following and the events that lead to his current lifestyle. The pacing was phenomenal and the tension, simmering. With yesterdays broadcast of the second episode we begin to lay out a framework for what to expect from this anime in subsequent releases.

How the anime flows and works is just so buttery slick! I have never been so pleased with an anime right off the bat! Heck, I am not too into the thriller genre but this one takes the cake. The writing stands out so much and the characters are just amazing. They are living and breathing, in the most basic sense. The character we follow, Satoru is given a chance to correct the past and change the events that unfolded in his present timeline. Without giving too much away, it was all due to a girl who was kidnapped and killed. It is this girl he will try to make friends with and to stop her death all together. I have a feeling this is going to be bitter sweet in the end and I can already feel the emotions that will come when this anime wraps up. Will it be a tear jerk-er? Maybe. It is quite possible with how well the anime is put together. The story is the most engaging and delightful aspect of this anime that I have experience so far. I am just so giddy when this airs a new episode. I can hardly contain my excitement for this anime and frankly, this is how and anime should make you feel. Yes, ERASED is an anime that will not play nice nor will it cut corners. It has a message to get across and frankly it is one that is of pressing nature in our modern society. This anime also seems like it will be exploring the abusive side of childhood, when growing up in a less than ideal family environment. I can say I have my share of scars and maybe this is why I am responding to this anime so well. Maybe this is why I am interested in the mindset that is, Kayo Hinadzuki. She is the girl that is the person of interest to Satoru and the one who ultimately hides a darker secret that she has to hide and sadly, wear on herself.

The character though are more alive than a 2D image can let on. They have feelings, they have suffering and they have needs. Seeing Satoru’s expression when he gets to see his mother again is a somber and heart warming one. Yet, when we see Kayo, we can see the pain the longing to escape life. The varied personalities are amazing and they give this anime a life of its own and it what is drawing me in too. This anime has so much going for it and it is why I feel confident in saying that this is my top pick for 2016. I cannot say that about others. Did I know this from the start? No, I honestly thought this anime was going to be much different than what it actually turned out to be. I am very pleased it turned out to be something much different than what I was initially under the impression of. I thought it was just going to be about a manga artist struggling with stuff related to manga… boy was I wrong! I can only hope that the rest of the episodes to come continue with the pacing and grand and compelling drama that this first two episodes have introduced. Will it be emotionally gripping? I want to say yes, definently gripping and memorable. We sadly have to wait and see for the future episodes. If you have read the manga then you may already know how this anime will play out.

So, long story short, if you are looking for an anime that is gripping and has grand art and emotionall compelling story, then this anime is for you and it may also be your 2016 pick. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi can be enjoyed only on Crunchyroll at the time of this writing. I hope to see more sites pick this one up, Funimation does have a section for it so, let’s hope and see that we get a more diverse spread.

  1. I really do think this is going to be the anime of the season as well.

However I have a little fault in the characters generally they are all archetypes and don`t really expose much. His friends are just your average anime friends just younger now.

Though I do really appreciate the attention to the adolescence in Kayo Hinadzuki, for example she refers to Satoru`s mother as “haha” but she should actually refer to her own mother as “haha” and his mother as “okaasan” which is great because the writer took into account that this little girl though very serious in tone and emotion is just a little girl and mixes that up as any other child should. (This kind of stuff is extremely hard to translate into english, well into a line of subtitle. So generally it gets lost in the side.)

Also I love the blending color that just let`s everything mix well and look like it has value rather than a cheap anime with a few colors to represent items or surroundings like “One Punch Man.”

Really great animation job as well from A.1 Pictures everyone moves in flowing frame work.

    This is gonna be good!!!!
