It’s been 4 months since my last talk about music in anime. Today, we are going to be revisiting this topic but this time, focusing a bit more on the openings that I find just engrossing and amazing. I mean, most of us love openings, they give us a nice window into what the anime can hold. The artists behind the openings songs, often find themselves a bit more recognized, due to the impact that their songs have on those who may be watching the opening and closing. So, let’s dive into the openings that I have in mind for our awesome discussion on music today! This may be a shorter let’s talk, just simply because we are looking and sharing some of our favorite openings that make us feel inspired or interested in the anime that we are currently watching.

For starters I gotta go with the most current anime, Himouto Umaru-chan. I love this anime. I love how random and silly it is and the opening song reflects this anime perfectly. Everything just fits together. The beat and funky tone, go to make you feel like the anime and artist may have collaborated with one another when design this opening. The opening is actually performed by the voice actress for Umaru, which is why the song fits so well and why the voice work sounds so familiar.

When we want to be inspired, we crank up the tunes right? Well the next two openings are going to give you some pumping up! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders has one of the more manly openings for an anime. You get excited, inspired and ready to take on all evils that will face you! I have to say, I find myself playing this song all the time on J-Stars Victory Vs+. It is so pumped up that you cannot help but feel enthralled when watching this anime. It’s humorous antics often remind you that this anime can also not take itself too seriously.

This next one will make you want to wield your best weapon and to go after a witches soul. Soul Eaters first opening, Resonance is one that has stood out for me over the few past years. I remember first watching Soul Eater and feeling awed by how awesome it was and still is. You feel like this anime has something going for it with this opening, as well as its second opening, Black Paper Moon.

These openings all perfectly give us a taste for what we can expect. Much like how a delightful composition in the anime, the opening can make or break the anime itself. It can often turn a few curious spectators away and will often leave the anime judged then and there. There are those who purely skip over the opening the first time that they hear it. Thus they don’t really feel influenced by the opening at all. It can help the anime though. Viewers like myself who will sit through every single opening, will do so because there is some aspect that we really enjoy about them and it makes us even more excited to see what the episode will bring us. It also reminds us of the reasons why we got into the anime. In aspects of the closing credits, there are some that we really enjoy but there is only one closing that I really liked. That being the fourth closing to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Shunkan Sentimental by SCANDAL was a song that I listened to prior and I really liked it! Seeing it pop up in FMAB was something that made me love the series even more than I already did.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed this third entry! I don’t know how many more of these I will do. I am not the best with explaining or playing music but I know how much music can make or break a show or movie. Music is what fills us with joy, sorrow, inspiration or excitement. What are some of your openings or closings that you really enjoy? Did they help influence how you felt about the anime that you were watching? Did it have the opposite effect and make you feel like you weren’t really enjoying the anime as much as you could be? Feel free to let us know in the comments below!
