Due to my post inspiring a certain author. I felt obligated to give Gurren Lagann some more love today. So we will be taking Gurren Lagann into its first, ‘Let’s Talk Anime’ and will treat it to the attention that it deserves. So what is Gurren Lagann, for those of who may have not seen it. Gurren Lagann is a Post Apocalyptic/Mecha anime that takes place on Earth in the far off future, in a time where Strange forces (Anti-Spiral and Spiral) combat one another for what is left. However, that is far from the story. The Story centers on the efforts of Simon and those of Team Lagann’s journey to find out what more is out there for them and to overcome the insurmountable odds that face them. The story’s struggle is made evident through the sheer unwinnable moments that our characters are faced with time and time again, only to overcome them in the best fashion possible.

What makes this anime much more than just the story you follow, is how it’s characters inspire you. That is what this anime is essentially all about. That inspiring, uplifting force that continues to push you, even in the darkest of hours, it keeps you going. Simon had his fair share but it was inspiration from everyone, from Kamina, who helped get him to where he needs to be. It took Simon showing bravery to give Kamina his strength. The power of bonds is what this story also shows. The power to be able to shrug off the heaviest of weights and objects that you encounter. The actors deliver this package through their amazing voice work. While I still prefer the sub, the dub is just as great in providing that uplifting nature. Its these rousing speeches that make us choke up when a character fades or becomes lost. It’s the strength to keep moving forward and onward, even when all is lost or if our dreams turn to sand. I could go on for days about how pumped this anime makes one feel when watching it. There hardly is a dull moment that you will encounter. Sure it has its filler every now and then but what anime doesn’t? Still doesn’t make it any less than what it is; and what it is, is fantastic.

The art style is a bit older but for an anime from 2007 but, it holds. The fluid fight scenes to the epic transformations and mech merges; all fluid and dynamic. The character animations are another thing that is down right awesome. I think this anime for the time had some unique and iconic characters. I mean who hasn’t seen a Yoko Littner figure, fan art, body pillow or key chain? Gurren Lagann has given us many characters to love and to inspire to be like. Many people that I chat with almost always mention Kamina as their favorite character from any anime. Period. His character is both dashing, manly, roguish and daring. Not to mention his motivational speeches and phrases are always an added bonus.

The soundtrack is another amazing aspect of this anime and it does not disappoint. While silly at times, I’m talking about you Mr. Row Row, Fight The Power, the soundtrack is both amazingly emotional and equally impacting in terms of the many supped up fight scenes. Heck, this soundtrack always graces my playlists, no matter what the writing or play subject is. It is just a solid piece of composition. With a 27 Episode run, the anime feels long but it will creep up on you sooner rather than later. I wish, oh how I wish it was a bit longer or got a follow up season but, what we have, is still a terrific anime. It does have several movies, sadly I have not seen either. It is still up on Crunchyroll as of this posting and it is an anime that everyone has got to have on their queue’s. It has a bit of everything for everyone and not to mention it is an anime that can help you to see the brighter side of things, even when the whole of the world has you down. Just remember… Believe in the me that believes in you, no matter the odds you can push through, to victory.

As always we hope you liked this article! We hope to continue to keep on trucking with these posts. However, with a busy work schedule coming up for the foreseeable future, I don’t know how readily I can keep up. We may have to batch write a few articles and schedule them for dated releases, that way we can still provide awesome content! 1. Thanks. I’ll watch it. . .eventually. Since it’s already on my to-watch list, I’ll watch it one of these days. Besides, I hear that some of my favourite seiyuu are in the cast. Looking forward to that. Good post. Keep it up. Cheers!

  1. To be honest, I saw this anime back when SyFy was doing an Anime block on Mondays, it was called Ani-Mondays. Unfortunately, I missed out some of the episodes. I watched from beginning to end when Gurren Lagann was on Toonami.
