If you happened to have read my original (Non Non Biyori Review!) then you will understand that I loved this anime. When I heard that they were going to throw up some ‘new’ episodes, I was more than thrilled to watch this again. The title of the second season is essentially a give away. It is a repeat of the same season that we already have seen. So, why watch it again? Because every scene, every episode has been reworked. While the episodes play out similarly to what we saw the first time around, this second season gives us different perspectives and new events to watch fold out. So, lets dive a little bit deeper into our summer vacation and take a look at a revisit to an equally delightful anime.
What has changed exactly, you may be asking yourself. Well, a lot actually. There are entirely new scenes, games, jokes, events that happen in Non Non Biyori Repeat. While still holding the same base timeline together, the animators added a whole slew of new notches to the timeline to give us an anime that is still fresh and new by exploring more of our characters everyday lives. One example was the addition of a rather high stakes game with rulers. If you weren’t on the edge of your seat with the play by play events that happened with that game, then you are in for a treat. And it just isn’t the new scenes that are added, it’s more story too. You get to learn about the characters even more so and you begin to understand them even more so. It is rare to see an anime take what was already established by a first season and then add onto it with entirely new dialogue and events. If you are a gamer, think of it as buying the Game of The Year addition, over just the base game. It is still the same game you originally bought but, with brand new quests or scenes that you didn’t get to explore in the first time you played it. Except with Non Non Biyori Repeat, you don’t have to pay for the extra DLC.
The animation has stayed roughly the same, there is a noticeable upscale but, not by much. I happened to have gotten a new television set, so when comparing the two there is a slight difference but not by much. The art style and world is still the pure and lovable one that we all enjoy. The music is just as good as it was with the first season and the voice work is on par with what the original laid out for us. As far as how long this anime season will run? We might be getting the same amount of episodes as we got with the first season; unless they decided to go to the far out field with this season and give us a few more than what the original had given.
If you haven’t seen the first 12 episodes of Non Non Biyori, be sure to check it out on Crunchyroll! They have both seasons up, keeping in mind that season two is simulcasting as we speak; with each new episode popping up on Monday’s at 2:00PM Central Time. So, question time! What do you all think about the second season of Non Non Biyori? Have you seen the first one? Feel free to give us a comment below or talk about it on our twitter page! We also appreciate the support we have gotten thus far and if you haven’t seen already, we were nominated for a Liebster Award (Twice now actually! Once from the amazing Lynlynsays and also from the ever swave MadokaSwagica)
